Lean 4x4 - Ideal Introduction to Lean Thinking
Updated: Mar 17
Focused on creating value added products and brands, Westland Milk Products (Westland) is flourishing and now one of New Zealand’s leading infant nutrition ingredient manufacturers. Committed to delivering quality products from the farm gate to customer door, the growing business is embracing its lean journey by improving its processes, systems and staff.
Intent is thrilled to have been a part of Westland’s lean journey. Following a 4×4 simulation facilitated by Intent Group, one Westland Manager observed the benefits of pulling his team together offsite and involving them in discussions to illustrate the opportunities existing within their organisation.
Westland’s UHT Manufacturing Manager, David Reid, remarked:
“As well as having fun, my team worked really well together to meet all the challenges. I would suggest that this is a good starting point for organisations wanting to get teams aligned and supporting one another.”
David deliberately stepped back to allow individual perspectives to flourish, during the two day simulation. He felt it was an excellent networking opportunity which encouraged the group, made up of staff from a variety of departments, to think outside their areas and help break down the “silo” thinking that can exist.
“My hope is that my team left the course with the understanding of the principles and a positive way to successfully deal with issues we may face in the future. An added benefit is that it can be assessed against national unit standards which will help to consolidate the learning” said David.
David suggests that any organisation wishing to introduce their team to lean thinking, would find a 4×4 session a worthwhile starting point for their journey. We agree.
